Snowman Pillow Top or Christmas Quilt Medallion
DATE: Tuesday, December 12

TIME: 9 am - 2 pm
Place: Fiber Arts Room
We scoured the internet to find, what we firmly believe, is the cutest snowman out there. We made some adaptations and came up with this original design. Cute little guy, huh?
This pillow measures 26 inches square. You will work in layers to complete the pillow top.
IMPORTANT: Instruction is for the top only, ready to make into a pillow, table topper, or quilt. Fabric requirements for the pillow backing is for your information only.
Layer 1: The collage background. We chose a red/orange/purple combination; however, you can decide what color you want to see behind the snowman. The finished size of this layer is about 16 inches square.
Layer 2 : The snowman. This layer uses fusible appliqué so there is no limit to your creativity at this point.
Layer 3: The border. Use this layer to finish the look AND adjust the size of the design to fit the pillow size of your choice.
To complete all the layers, you will need 1) a sewing machine in good working order and 2) all basic sewing supplies such as thread, needles, scissors, rulers, etc.
Layer 1: We used about 20 different fabrics to create the background. If you like the look, go through your stash and find fabrics you like in the color scheme you want. As you can see, we used prints, dots, stripes, and solids. Keep in mind you want you background to “blend” and allow you to see the snowman clearly.
You can use fewer fabrics to create your background or use one solid color. It’s your pillow...your choice!
Steam-a-Seam or Wonder Under (Either one will work; use the one you like best)
For the snowman, follow what we did or choose your own colors. We used the following solids for the snowman and his accessories:
White fabric for snowman body and head
Black fabric for snowman’s hat, eyes, mouth, arms, and hands
Orange fabric for snowman’s nose
Fabric of your choice for snowman’s hat band (and any other embellishments you want to add)
Border fabric to complete pillow top. The outer borders are 6-inches x 15-inches finished with pieced corner “stones.”
NOTE: To complete the pillow, we used a 26-inch pillow form (quite large). Backing requirement would be a 26-inch square for a tight fit on the pillow form. A zipper closure is an option.
