HAND APPLIQUE: NEEDLE TURN AND FREEZER PAPER

Whether you are a beginner quilter or a more advanced quilter, most quilters will delve into the world of applique at some point. Most quilters are intimidated by the idea, but an applique class with help to find your favorite applique technique after trying a few different ways. This class will demonstrate two often used techniques in hand applique methods: Needle-turn Hand Applique and Freezer Paper Hand Applique. Each member of the class will make at least one heart appliqued on a 5” square (fabric will be provided). Finished blocks will be made into a baby quilt for charity.

Needle Turn Applique:

Traditional Needle Turn Applique will be demonstrated by Karen Bogadi. Tools she uses are Sharp needles in size 11 (smaller or larger, your preference). Different sizes will be provided for you to try. Some people prefer the longer straw needles. Karen has found those with smaller hand like shorter sharp needles and larger hands the longer straw needles.

Tools and Supplies that are suggested for you to bring are:

Small pointy “fabric” scissors

Thimble (if you use one)

Fabric marking pencil

Freezer Paper Applique:

Using Freezer paper applique will be demonstrated by Jackie Droncheff (her favorite choice). Because the tools and supplies should only be purchased if you decide this is the method for you in the future, they will be available to use during the class (plastic template, freezer paper, spray starch, sealing irons, paint brushes, and basting glue).

Tools and Supplies that are suggested for you to bring are:

Applique needles Length is your choice. Thin needles are recommended (easier going through fabric), Jackie uses Milliner or straw needles sizes 9, 10 or 11 and thimble (if you use one).
