GENERAL MEETING
February 12, 2018 

BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT:  Chris Booth, Jean Fry, Helen Phillips, JoEllen Cruze, Marlene Kuskie, Donna Aybar, Judy Frank, Kathy Brown, Sandy Crabtree, Linda Publicover, Pam Branfuhr, Liz Gray, Cathy Howell, and Wendy Gilbert 

COMMITTEE MEMBERS PRESENT:  Roberta Penchina, Patsy Wagner, Joanne Kraatz, Irma Taylor, Millissa Masters, and Barbara Maurer 

Also present:  Webmaster Ronda Jones 

Chris Booth called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.  The January 8, 2018 annual meeting minutes stand approved as posted. 

REPORTS OF OFFICERS AND STANDING COMMITTEES: 

President:  Chris Booth welcomed new members and guests.
 

Vice President:  Jean Fry reported arrangements are being made for the Spring luncheon to be held on April 16.  Discount cards are now available for members for Bob’s Variety and Mulqueen’s. 

Secretary:  No report.

Treasurer:  JoEllen Cruze stated the current balance is $14,063.  Treasurer’s report is available on the website. 

Programs/Education:  Kathy Brown reported Ila Larson and Irma Taylor will conduct an “Oasis” class on February 27.  On March 27, Linda Labenz will teach a one-block wonder class.  Donna Wisnoski will teach a “High Tech Tucks” class on April 10. 

Kathy Brown will host the Monday evening “sew fun.”  On February 19, the focus will be to get better acquainted with each foot for domestic machines.  On February 26, there will be a demonstration on “flip/flop appliqué.”
 

Community Service:  Donna Aybar reported 16 quilts were delivered in January to Hospice and Ryan’s House, 8 receiving blankets were delivered to Abrazo along with 3 bibs and 3 burb cloths, 20 stuffed animals were delivered to Southwest Advocacy, and $160 was received in sales and donations. 

On February 17, there will be a community service project to make memory care activity vests or aprons for Abrazo memory care patients.  Kits have been made and are ready to be assembled. 

On March 22 and 29, Ronda Jones will conduct workshops to complete dog beds.  Those beds will be given to Jim Ellis who will take care of delivering the beds to the shelters. 

On March 24, there will be a community service project to make flannel receiving blankets and bears for Abrazo. 

Some of the “adopt-a-quilt” projects have been completed.  This is an ongoing project and there are kits available in the tub ready for adoption.
 

Plain black and white fabrics have been purchased for members to use when piecing charity quilts.  There is also a bolt of white-on-white in the cabinet to be used for piecing charity quilts. 

Judy Frank asked for a volunteer to chair the Veteran’s Day quilts project this year.  Members are to contact Donna Aybar, Patsy Wagner or Judy Frank to volunteer.  

Long Arm:  Linda Publicover reported two additional sessions of the mandatory class for those using the long arm will be held on February 21 at 9:00 a.m. and February 27 at 6:30 p.m.  Those certified on the long arm will need to attend a mandatory class prior to February 28 to maintain their certification. 

Publicity:  Marlene Kuskie reported Quilt Show bookmarks have been provided to quilt stores.  Posters have also been sent out.  Two articles will also appear in the Pebblecreek Post this month and two articles are planned for March.
 

Sales:  No report.
Social:  No report.

Librarian:  Liz Gray reported work continues on the Library with many new additions. 

Historian:  No report.
Webmaster:  No report.  

Display Window:  Chris Booth thanked Wendy Gilbert and Cathy Howell for the display in the display window and noted several compliments have been received. 

SPECIAL COMMITTEES
 

Opportunity Quilt:  Chris Booth noted there was $150 in ticket sales at the Desert Fest.  Tickets will be sold at the Pickleball Tournament on February 15, and at the parking lot sale on February 25 (volunteers needed). 

Quilt Show:  Millissa Masters reported 147 quilt entries have been received from members.  The deadline was February 12.  Volunteers are still needed for the Quilt Show and sign up sheets were circulated.  Hangers with clips, wreath hangers, and light aluminum ladders are also still needed.  At the March 12 meeting, members will receive their forms for the quilts to be displayed.  Top portion is to be pinned to the quilt and members are to keep the bottom portion to bring with them when picking up quilts on Sunday evening, March 18.  

Challenge Quilt:  Kathleen O’Connell noted challenge quilt items will be displayed in the window in March.  Items should be placed in cabinet 22 on February 28 and will be placed in display windows on March 1. 


Documentation:  Ronda Jones reported ten quilts were documented on February 9.  Documentation is planned for March and April.  Members were encouraged to have their quilts documented. 

OLD BUSINESS: None.

NEW BUSINESS:


 Chris Booth reported that as a part of the Creative Arts Center budget, new tables and chairs will be provided to all the rooms, and a new cutting table is also planned for the Diamondback room.  Cabinet key locks will be replaced with combination locks. 

The next board meeting will be held on March 5, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. in the Diamondback Room.  The next membership meeting will be held on March 12, 2018 at 7:00 p.m., with a social beginning at 6:30 p.m., in the Coyote Room 

Pam Branfuhr moved the meeting be adjourned and Jean Fry seconded.  Members approved.
