IN THE BEGINNING (1994, 1995, 1996)
The Estrella Mountain Stars ( currently know as PebbleCreek Quilters) began in approximately 1994. It was a chapter of the Arizona Guilt Guild (AQG, established in 1978) and began with the women talking quilting classes at Estrella Mountain Community College in Avondale, AZ. They were meeting in ladies homes in Litchfield Park, twice a month on the 2nd and 4th Thursday at 7:00 pm. By the fall of 1994 they had received their charter with AQG.
In the spring of 1995 they met with a small group of quilters from PebbleCreek. They began to meet together still meeting in the ladies homes. In August 1995 they started meeting at the PebbleCreek Clubhouse on the 2nd & 4th Mondays at 7:00 pm. The facilities were larger and they began to grow because the membership was open to anyone including ladies that did not live in PebbleCreek.
They began quilting classes, demonstrations, attending AQG quilt shows, hosting traveling teachers from AQG, and enjoying many luncheons.
The Chairman of the club in 1996 was Joan Johnson
The Chairman of the Board was Connie Mirkovich. Their name was changed to Estrella Mountain Quilters.
They made donations on July 7th to the New Life Shelter of 11 children's quilts.
