GENERAL MEETING
May 14, 2018 

BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT:  Jean Fry, Helen Phillips, and JoEllen Cruze 

COMMITTEE MEMBERS PRESENT:  Judy Frank, Sandy Crabtree, Cathy Howell, Wendy Gilbert, Joanne Kraatz, Irma Taylor, and Roberta Penchina 

Also present:  Webmaster Ronda Jones 

Jean Fry called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.  Jean Fry officiated at the meeting in Chris Booth’s absence.  The April 16, 2018 general meeting minutes stand approved as posted. 

REPORTS OF OFFICERS AND STANDING COMMITTEES:

President:  Jean Fry welcomed new members, including Mary Peterson, Sheila Johnson and Tisha Johnson. 

Vice President:  No report.
Secretary:  No report.

Treasurer:  JoEllen Cruze stated the current balance is $13,677.  Treasurer’s report is available on the website. 

Programs/Education:  Sandy Crabtree reported she taught a double-cross block and mounting a block on canvas in April.  Roberta Penchina demonstrated using rulers and templates on the long arm on April 20.  Dalonna Cooper conducted a workshop where members created notebooks on using different needles, threads, and presser feet on domestic machines on May 12.

Nothing will be scheduled for Monday or Wednesday evenings.  Members may contact Ronda Jones if they plan to be in the Diamondback room on either of those evenings so a notice can be sent in case other members wish to join them. 

Community Service:  Judy Frank reported 66 items were donated during the past month, including 22 quilts to Hospice, 20 receiving blankets and 20 bears to Abrazo, and 4 heart pillows to Carol Winston for donation.  To date in 2018, there have been 202 items donated and 65 of those items were quilts. 

Boy quilt tops will be the focus at the community service project on May 19 as Southwest Advocacy has requested more boy quilts. 

The committee will be touring Ryan House on May 24. 

Summer plans are to finish up charity items, work on the adopt-a-quilts as well as Veterans’ quilts. 

Long Arm:  Roberta Penchina reported the committee will be dismantling the longarm on Friday, June 29.  The long arm will be stored offsite while the Creative Arts Center is refurbished.  The plan is for the long arm to be reassembled and ready for members’ use by August 6. 

Publicity:  No report. 

Sales:  In response to the Gallery’s request for red, white, and blue items for Memorial Day, Judy Frank stated she would be in the Diamondback room on May 16 to check on items for the Gallery. 

Social:  No report.
Librarian:  No report.

Historian:  Ronda Jones reported the 2018 scrapbook will be a digital scrapbook located on our website.  

Webmaster:  Ronda Jones reported the digital scrapbook is now on the website under a new page, “2018, a Year in Review.”  Photos and items for the scrapbook are to be sent to Ronda Jones. 

Display Window:  Cathy Howell reported the theme for June will be picnics.  If members have items for display, those items should be placed in the cabinet 22. 

SPECIAL COMMITTEES
Opportunity Quilt:  No report.
Quilt Show:  No report. 

Challenge Quilt:  Kathleen O’Connell demonstrated several items containing hexagons.

Documentation:  No report.

Veterans’ Appreciation Quilts:  Judy Frank reported the next workshop is scheduled for May 17.  Liz Gray will store the completed quilts. 

OLD BUSINESS: 

Jean Fry noted the Creative Arts Center will be closed from July 8 through the first of August.  The room will be emptied as well as the windows prior to July 8.  Items will remain in the cabinets.   

NEW BUSINESS: 

Cathy Howell reported a quilt pattern has been chosen for the quilt to be donated for the silent auction for the Jeremy Chandler Scholarship Fund.  In addition, Sue Godwin’s daughters donated a quilt for the silent auction.  Sue Godwin had quilted the quilts donated to the silent action in the past.  A volunteer will be needed to do the quilting on the 2018 quilt to be donated. 

Jean Fry noted that Priscilla Sharp, a former member, will be moving back to Indiana and has a lot of quilting supplies.  Those items will be available for purchase from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 18 and 19 at 3201 N. 152nd Avenue. 

Jean Fry noted the next board meeting will be held on June 4, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. in the Diamondback Room.   The next general membership meeting will be held on June 11, 2018 at 7:00 p.m., with a social beginning at 6:30 p.m., in the Diamondback Room.  There will be no meetings in July, and no meetings in August unless needed. 

Joanne Kraatz moved the meeting be adjourned, and  Sandy Crabtree seconded.  Motion approved.
