BOARD MEETING
May 7, 2018

BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT:  Chris Booth, Helen Phillips, JoEllen Cruze, Donna Aybar, Kathy Brown, Linda Publicover, and Mary Sheldon 

COMMITTEE MEMBERS PRESENT:  Judy Frank, Roberta Penchina, and Lynne Hupp


Also present:  Webmaster Ronda Jones, and Linda Shaver, Emeritus 

Chris Booth called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m.  The April 2, 2018 Board meeting minutes stand approved as posted. 

REPORTS OF OFFICERS AND STANDING COMMITTEES: 

President:  No report.
Vice President:  No report.
Secretary:  No report.

Treasurer:  JoEllen Cruze stated the current balance is $13,677.  Treasurer’s report is available on the website. 

Programs/Education:  Kathy Brown reported Sandy Crabtree taught a double-cross block and mounting a block on canvass in April.  Roberta Penchina demonstrated using rulers and templates on the long arm on April 20.  Dalonna Cooper will conduct a workshop where members will create notebooks on using different needles, threads, and presser feet on domestic machines on May 12. 

Chris Booth mentioned there will be a “Christmas in June or August” but a date has not been set. 

Community Service:  Donna Aybar reported 67 items were donated during April, including 2 quilts for the MOAA fundraiser at Luke Air Force Base, 16 quilts to Hospice, 20 receiving blankets and 20 bears to Abrazo, 4 large quilts to New Life Center, and 4 heart pillows to Carol Winston for donation.  Also 49 dog pillows were recently delivered to the Companion Club, including the 15 from Dotty Werner.  To date in 2018, there have been 202 items donated and 65 of those items were quilts. 

Boy quilt tops will be the focus at the community service project on May 19 as Southwest Advocacy has requested more boy quilts. 

A field trip to tour Ryan House is planned for May 24, and 20 quilts plus walker caddies will be delivered to Ryan House. 

Summer plans are to finish up charity items, work on the adopt-a-quilts as well as Veterans’ quilts. 

Long Arm:  Roberta Penchina reported additional circles for the long arm were purchased, and a new base plate has been ordered. 

Publicity:  Lynne Hupp was present for Marlene Kuskie during her absence.  No report. 

Sales:  JoEllen Cruze noted there were no sales to report.

Social:  Mary Sheldon reported a social will be scheduled for Monday evening, May 21. 

Librarian:  No report.

Historian:
  Ronda Jones reported the 2018 scrapbook will be a digital scrapbook located on our website.  

Webmaster:  Ronda Jones reported the digital scrapbook is now on the website under a new page, “2018, a Year in Review.”  Photos and items for the scrapbook are to be sent to Ronda Jones. 

Display Window:  Chris Booth noted the beautiful display created by Cathy Howell and Wendy Gilbert. 

SPECIAL COMMITTEES

Opportunity Quilt:  No report.
Quilt Show:  No report.
Challenge Quilt:  No report. 

Documentation:  Ronda Jones noted no documentation is scheduled at this time. 

Veterans’ Appreciation Quilts:  Donna Aybar gave the report received from Liz Gray that 4 quilts have been completed, and 4 quilts are ready for binding.  The next workshop is scheduled for May 17.  Liz Gray will store the completed quilts. 

OLD BUSINESS: 

Chris Booth noted the Creative Arts Center will be closed from July 8 through the first of August.  The room will need to be emptied as well as the windows.   Plans are to meet on July 6 at 12:01 p.m. to box items as requested.  The long arm committee will take care of dismantling the long arm.

NEW BUSINESS: 

Linda Publicover motioned the charge for personal items quilted on the long arm be changed to an hourly rate as opposed to the current piece rate.  Helen Phillips seconded the motion.  After discussion, motion carried.  The long arm committee will draft the guidelines. 

Chris Booth noted the next general membership meeting will be held on May 14, 2018 at 7:00 p.m., with a social beginning at 6:30 p.m., in the Coyote Room. 

The next board meeting will be held on June 4, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. in the Diamondback Room. 

Lynne Hupp moved the meeting be adjourned, and  Kathy Brown seconded.  Motion approved.
