GENERAL MEETING
November 13, 2017 

BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT:  Chris Booth, Iris Weise, Helen Phillips, JoEllen Cruze, Karen Bogadi, Donna Aybar, Judy Frank, Linda Shaver, Pam Murphy, Linda Publicover, Pam Branfuhr, Mary Sheldon, and Liz Gray. 

Also present:  Webmaster Ronda Jones, and Emeritus Nancy Treece 

Chris Booth called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.  The October 9, 2017 general meeting minutes stand approved as posted.  

REPORTS OF OFFICERS AND STANDING COMMITTEES:

President:  Chris Booth welcomed members. 

Vice President:  Iris Weise reported the menu for the December 18 luncheon is either chicken piccata for $15 or maple balsamic pork loin for $17.  Reservations can be made on the website and payment made through PayPal.  The installation of officers for 2018 will be at the December 18 luncheon.  Bob’s Variety discount cards for 2018 will be available at the December meeting. 

Secretary:  No report. 

Treasurer:  JoEllen Cruze noted the current balance is $12,491.  The treasurer’s report is available on the website.  Membership renewal can be completed on the website and payment made through PayPal. 

Programs/Education:  Linda Shaver reported Jackie Droncheff taught a hand appliqué skill builders’ class using the freezer paper technique in October. 

  1. Carolyn Rider will be teaching an additional hand appliqué technique at the November 28 skill builders’ class.
  2. Karen Bogadi will conduct the final pinhead class on November 30.
  3. Marlene Kuskie will be teaching a bag class on December 5.
  4. There will be no skill builders’ class in December. 
  5. Linda Shaver also encouraged members to use the Maricopa County Library online to view quilts and quilting magazines.  The website is www.mcldaz.org. 


Community Service:  Donna Aybar reported 16 quilt tops were made at the jelly roll race on November 11. 

  1. On October 25, 75 breast cancer pillows were cut and 30 of those have been stuffed.  Others will be stuffed as the need arises. Materials were provided by the Bosom Buddies. 

  2. Judy Frank reported there are 40 placemats that will be available on Wednesdays for members to quilt and bind.  The placemats will be placed in the Gallery to sell.  


Long Arm:  No report.
Publicity:  No report. 

Sales:  Pam Branfuhr mentioned there are new rules and regulations for the Gallery and only 6 of any one item can be placed in the Gallery at a time. 

Social:  Mary Sheldon reported there was a social October 31, a Halloween Party, at the Oasis Pool area.  Arrangements have been made for Christmas luncheon decorations and door prizes. 

Librarian:  No report.
Historian:  No report.
Webmaster:  No report.
Display Window:  No report.

SPECIAL COMMITTEES 

Veterans’ Day Quilts:  Chris Booth thanked those who participated in making the 26 patriotic quilts given to the PebbleCreek veterans at the Veterans’ Day Program on November 11.  One Marine veteran mentioned it was the first time he had received any recognition for his service and was very grateful to the quilters for the quilt he received. 

Quilt Show:  Chris Booth reported we will have the whole building for the quilt show on March 15, 16, and 17.  Challenge quilts will be displayed in the windows.  A committee will be appointed in January. 

Challenge Quilt:  No report. 

Documentation:  Donna Wisnoski reported the documentation project will commence again on January 12, 2018, and continue on the second Friday of each month through May, from noon to 4 p.m.  An article will be placed in the Post regarding the documentation project noting that it will be open to the PebbleCreek community.  Members are asked to contact Donna Wisnoski if they are interested in participating in the project. 

Opportunity Quilt:  Karen Bogadi reported tickets for the Opportunity Quilt were sold on October 6 and 7 at Sun Valley Quilts, and on October 21 at 35th Avenue.  Tickets will be sold on November 18 at Arizona Quilts and on December 2 at the PebbleCreek Holiday Arts and Crafts Festival. 

Chris Booth reported Cindy Santoro has volunteered to quilt the 2018 Opportunity Quilt. 

OLD BUSINESS: 

Jonnie Chandler displayed the “State of Grace” quilt donated for the auction held on November 11 for the Jeremy Chandler Scholarship.  A PebbleCreek resident purchased the quilt. 

NEW BUSINESS:    

Nancy Treece announced the 2018 slate of officers to be as follows:

Chris Booth thanked Erma Taylor and Nancy Treece for serving on the nominating committee.


Chris Booth reported a quilt will be delivered to Sue Godwin. 

Iris Weise moved the meeting be adjourned, and Donna Aybar seconded.  Board members approved.
