BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: Chris Booth, Helen Phillips, JoEllen Cruze, Karen Bogadi, Donna Aybar, Judy Frank, Joanne Kraatz, Shirley Cushing, and Liz Gray.

Chris Booth called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. The August 14, 2017 general meeting minutes stand approved as posted.
REPORTS OF OFFICERS AND STANDING COMMITTEES:
President: Chris Booth reported a quilt has been delivered to Sue Jackson.
The members were reminded that the last person in the room is to check irons to be sure they are empty and put away, turn off the power strips, thermostat set at 78 degrees, all cabinets are locked, room doors locked, and lights are turned off.
Vice President: Chris Booth noted Iris Weise is working on the holiday luncheon.
Secretary: No report.
Treasurer: JoEllen Cruze noted the current balance is $12,589. The Treasurer’s report is available on the website.
Programs/Education: Liz Gray reported Mary Sheldon taught two classes on the Camden Bag in August.
Sue Whaples will have a skill builders’ class on paper piecing using a Judy Niemeyer table topper with a workshop on September 12 and class on September 26.
Kathy Howell will teach a steampunk class on October 6.
Monday evening sewing will resume this fall, beginning September 18 at 4:30 pm. Some members will be working on their own projects and others will be working on a twister pattern. It is also a social event. Members interested in hosting Monday evenings are asked to contact Linda Shaver or Pam Murphy.
Karen Bogadi will be working with the pinhead group on a pumpkin pincushion on September 28 from 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm.
Marlene Kuskie will be leading the modern quilt group beginning in November.
The Farmer’s wife group will commence meeting in October.
Pam Branfuhr will be hosting Wednesday evening sewing beginning at 4 p.m.
Community Service: Donna Aybar made a delivery of quilts to Southwest Advocacy. Their facility is having an open house on October 18 from 3 pm to 6 pm. Members interested in attending are to contact Donna Aybar.
The 20 patriotic quilt tops have been completed and there are 8 tops remaining to be quilted. The quilts will be presented to the veterans at the PC Veterans’ Day Program at the Renaissance Theatre in November.
Judy Frank reported a jelly roll race is being planned for November 11 at 9:30 am. Linda Labenz will facilitate and jelly rolls will be provided. Donated fabric from the cabinets will be used and cut on Sunday, September 17, at 10 am.
Judy Frank also had pillow case kits for the members to pick up after the meeting. These items are for charity or will be sold in the Gallery.
Long Arm: Joanne Kraatz reported 21 personal and 15 charity quilts were quilted on the long arm this past month. A minor adjustment to the longarm is scheduled for Tuesday morning, September 12. Members are to contact Joanne Kraatz if they need to be certified or recertified on the longarm. It was noted that members might consider using the long arm on Monday or Wednesday evenings.
Publicity: No report.
Sales: No report.
Social: The next social event is scheduled for September 18, at 4:30 p.m.
Librarian: No report.
Historian: No report.
Webmaster: No report.
Display Window: Liz Gray reported that Sue Whaples’ quilt is on display in the window. It is a Judy Niemeyer award winning quilt. Decorating items from Linda Labenz are displayed in the other window.
In October, there will be a breast cancer awareness display.
Quilt Show: The quilt show is on the activities center calendar for March.
Challenge Quilt: Kathleen O’Connell reminded members the challenge for this year is the log cabin and items can be any size. Two windows will be available for displaying the challenge quilts in March.
Opportunity Quilt: Karen Bogadi reported tickets for the 2017 Opportunity Quilt will be sold at Sun Valley Quilts on October 6 and 7, and at Arizona Quilts on November 18. Volunteers are needed and those who volunteer will be given a $15 gift certificate to the store.
Chris Booth reported a volunteer is needed to quilt the 2018 Opportunity Quilt.
Gravity Quilt: Joni Reynertson reported ticket sales are going good for the Gravity Quilt to be presented at the CPC of Greater Phoenix Annual Benefit Dinner on October 6.
Jean Fry noted there are spots available for the January Road to California trip.
Joni Chandler reported there will be a workshop on October 3, from 9 am to 4 pm, to work on a quilt for the Jeremy Chandler Memorial Scholarship. Cathy Howell will facilitate the workshop. A volunteer will be needed to do the quilting. The silent auction and presentation of the quilt will be at Augie’s on November 11 from 5 pm to 9 pm.
Kathleen O’Connell noted there is an art quilt show in Surprise running until October 6. Members should contact Kathleen O’Connell for further information.
Chris Booth reported Ronda Jones sent to the members a list of quilters that members can contact if they have a quilt they need quilted. It was noted our long arm is not to be used for a business.
Karen Bogadi moved the meeting be adjourned, and Jean Fry seconded. Members approved.
