PEBBLECREEK QUILTERS
GENERAL MEETING
September 10, 2018 

BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT:  Chris Booth, Jean Fry, Helen Phillips, JoEllen Cruze, Donna Aybar, Kathy Brown, Linda Publicover, Pam Branfuhr, Mary Sheldon, Liz Gray, Wendy Gilbert, and Cathy Howell. 

COMMITTEE MEMBERS PRESENT:  Judy Frank, Patsy Wagner, Irene Lukes, Joanne Kraatz, Irma Taylor, and Donna Wisnoski
Also present:  Webmaster Ronda Jones, and Linda Shaver, Emeritus 

Chris Booth called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.  The June 11, 2018 general meeting minutes stand approved as posted. 

REPORTS OF OFFICERS AND STANDING COMMITTEES: 

President:  Chris Booth welcomed new members LaVonne Christensen, Terry Burnett and Janet Wise. 

Improvements to the Diamondback Room were noted including new chairs and tables, along with new paint and floors polished.  Chris Booth thanked members who emptied the room prior to the improvements and put the room in order afterwards. 

Vice President:  Jean Fry reported a meeting has been scheduled with Banquet Facilities regarding the Christmas luncheon to be held on December 10.

Secretary:  No report. 

Treasurer:  JoEllen Cruze stated the current balance is $11,760.  Treasurer’s report is available on the website. 

Programs/Education:  Kathy Brown reported a disappearing 9-patch class is scheduled for September 11.  On October 12, the rulers and templates on the long arm class will be limited to ten members who have been certified on the long arm.  On October 30, there will be a disappearing 4-patch class. 

Pam Branfuhr plans to have the “Sew with Pam” again this fall on Wednesday evenings from 4 to 8 pm beginning in October. 

Community Service: 

  • Judy Frank reported during the summer 12 quilts were donated to Southwest Advocacy, 12 quilts donated to West Valley Hospice, 13 dog beds were donated to Pets Companions, and 13 receiving blankets donated to Abrazo.  In 2018 to date, 404 items have been donated including 118 quilts. 
  • There are labels for charity quilts in the cabinets for members to sew on quilts prior to donating the item. 
  • A zippy-strippy bag workshop is scheduled for September 15.  Kits have been prepared.  The bags will be filled and given to the New Life Center as a part of its Christmas program.  Members should bring any travel size items such as shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, toothbrush, etc. to the workshop for the bags.
  • On October 20, there will be a workshop to make hope bags.  Sergers will be needed at this workshop as well as domestic machines.
  • Linda Labenz will be conducting a spray basting workshop for those members who would like to quilt charity items on their domestic machines.  Members interested in the workshop should contact Linda Labenz.
  • Mellissa Masters donated numerous fabrics recently as she prepared to move to Idaho. 


Long Arm:  Linda Publicover noted the long arm should be turned off, and the power strip also turned off.  The power strip is not to be unplugged from the wall.  Also the cord from the long arm to the power strip needs to remain untangled. 

Publicity:  No report. 

Sales:  Pam Branfuhr noted the Gallery is in need of placemats and table runners.  Kits are available and need to be completed by September 28.

Social:  Mary Sheldon reported the next social will be in late October.

Librarian:  No report.
Historian:  No report.
Webmaster:  No report. 

Display Window:  Cathy Howell thanked members for the one block wonder items currently on display. 

SPECIAL COMMITTEES 

Opportunity Quilt:  Chris Booth requested suggestions for events or locations to display the quilt and sell tickets.  The only event currently scheduled is the Holiday Festival to be held in the Creative Arts Building on December 1.  JoEllen Cruze noted we have received $993 to date in ticket sales.

Quilt Show:  No report.
Challenge Quilt:  No report. 

Documentation:  Donna Wisnoski noted the veterans’ quilts will be documented later this month.  

  • Additional volunteers are needed as well as a photographer.   Those volunteers will need to be trained prior to January.  Members interested in participating in the documentation program should email Donna Wisnoski. 


 Veterans’ Appreciation Quilts:  Liz Gray reported we have approximately 20 recipients and the presentation of quilts will be at the November 11 Veterans’ Day program at 2:00 p.m.  Volunteers will be needed to assist at the presentation.  Pebblecreek Photo Club will be contacted about a photographer for the event.  

OLD BUSINESS:  No old business noted. 

NEW BUSINESS:

  • Chris Booth noted the Holiday Festival is scheduled for Saturday, December 1 and the rooms in the Creative Arts Building will be closed November 30, December 1 and 2.  Applications to sell items at the Festival can be picked up in the Gallery and mailed to Diane Lawrence by October 15.
  • Christmas themed quilts will be hung from the ceiling in the hall during the Holiday Festival.  Members should contact Chris Booth if they have quilts that could be hung during the Festival.
  • Cathy Howell and Jonnie Chandler gave a presentation regarding the Jeremy Chandler Scholarship Fund.  A workshop has been scheduled for September 26, from 9:30 am to 4 pm to work on the Jeremy Chandler scholarship fund quilt.  The fundraiser will be held on November 10, from 5 to 9 pm at Augie’s.
  • A majority of the members approved the motion to raise dues to $25 per year for members in 2019.
  • Chris Booth noted elections will be coming up soon for new officers so volunteers are needed for the nomination committee to prepare a slate of officers for 2019.  The proposed slated of officers will be presented to the membership at the November meeting.  The members will then vote on the slate of offices at the December luncheon.
  • Chris Booth noted the next general membership meeting will be held on October 8, 2018 at 7:00 p.m., with a social beginning at 6:30 p.m., in the Coyote Room.

​Pam Branfuhr moved the meeting be adjourned, and  Carol Schumacher seconded.  Motion approved.
